According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in April 2006, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI was 197.2 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 6.8%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 24.1%
  2. Household energy: 19.2%
  3. Food away from home: 5.4%
