According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in February 2003, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA was 196.2 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 3.3%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 40.4%
  2. Household energy: 13.1%
  3. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 4.9%
