According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in July 2003, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA was 197.7 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 3.0%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 11.7%
  2. Motor fuel: 7.3%
  3. Rent of primary residence: 4.7%
