According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2005, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA was 211.4 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 3.4%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 13%
  2. Motor fuel: 11.8%
  3. Rent of primary residence: 4.5%
