According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in September 2009, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): South - Size Class A was 211.212 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was -1.7%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Food away from home: 2.1%
  2. Alcoholic beverages: 2%
  3. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 1.5%
