According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in January 2023, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV was 299.149 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 10.6%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

New and used motor vehicles: 28%
Household energy: 17.9%
Food away from home: 11.7%

The CPI-U is based on the expenditures of almost all residents of urban or metropolitan areas, including professionals, the self-employed, the poor, the unemployed, and retired people, as well as urban wage earners and clerical workers.
