According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in January, 2004:

  1. District of Columbia: 300
  2. Mississippi: -100
  3. Rhode Island: -800

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in January, 2004:

  1. New York: -42,100
  2. Ohio: -25,100
  3. Michigan: -22,300
