According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in December, 2006:

  1. New York: 8,100
  2. Virginia: 2,400
  3. South Carolina: 1,300

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in December, 2006:

  1. California: -9,800
  2. Washington: -6,300
  3. Michigan: -6,300
