According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in February, 2002:
- Texas: 24,900
- California: 23,200
- Illinois: 13,600

- Georgia: -1,100
- Hawaii: 0
