According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2002:

  1. West Virginia: 11,900
  2. New York: 9,800
  3. Illinois: 9,100

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2002:

  1. Arizona: -5,000
  2. Tennessee: -200
  3. Hawaii: -100
