According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2002:

  1. Texas: 63,400
  2. California: 61,000
  3. Michigan: 51,400

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2002:

  1. New York: -2,300
  2. Hawaii: -900
  3. Virginia: -800
