According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2003:

  1. Michigan: 8,100
  2. Illinois: 5,900
  3. Ohio: 5,400

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2003:

  1. Wisconsin: -1,600
  2. California: -1,600
  3. Arizona: -1,000
