According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:

  1. Florida: 87,500
  2. North Carolina: 60,300
  3. Indiana: 23,600

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:

  1. New York: -26,800
  2. New Jersey: -12,500
  3. Massachusetts: -6,300
