According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in December, 2008:

  1. New York: 4,200
  2. Indiana: 1,900
  3. Minnesota: 1,500

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in December, 2008:

  1. Ohio: -8,300
  2. California: -7,600
  3. Michigan: -4,800
