According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2008:
- California: 56,900
- North Carolina: 37,700
- Michigan: 36,900
On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Local Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2008:
- Florida: -1,300
- Hawaii: -800
- Louisiana: 1,800
