According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Manufacturing industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2006:

  1. Michigan: 35,500
  2. California: 8,000
  3. Kentucky: 6,600

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Manufacturing industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2006:

  1. Alaska: -2,100
  2. Alabama: -1,100
  3. South Carolina: -800
