According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Retail Trade industry (not seasonally adjusted) in January, 2004:

  1. District of Columbia: -1,300
  2. Wyoming: -1,600
  3. Alaska: -1,900

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Retail Trade industry (not seasonally adjusted) in January, 2004:

  1. California: -104,000
  2. New York: -62,400
  3. Texas: -53,400
