According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2004:

  1. Texas: 4,300
  2. Arkansas: 2,900
  3. Maryland: 2,900

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2004:

  1. California: -5,300
  2. Indiana: -2,300
  3. Minnesota: -1,500
