According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:

  1. Arizona: 7,800
  2. Georgia: 6,000
  3. Indiana: 5,000

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:

  1. California: -9,000
  2. New Jersey: -3,300
  3. Minnesota: -1,600
