According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2008:

  1. Hawaii: 5,900
  2. California: 3,200
  3. North Carolina: 1,300

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the State Government industry (not seasonally adjusted) in May, 2008:

  1. Michigan: -17,200
  2. Illinois: -6,700
  3. Florida: -6,600
