According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Total Nonfarm industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:
- Florida: 74,300
- North Carolina: 63,500
- Indiana: 43,600
On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Total Nonfarm industry (not seasonally adjusted) in August, 2008:
- New York: -38,400
- New Jersey: -29,400
- California: -12,800
