According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in April, 2002:

  1. Illinois: 52,500
  2. Michigan: 45,200
  3. New York: 45,100

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in April, 2002:

  1. Florida: -20,700
  2. California: -19,000
  3. Vermont: -2,600
