According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in October, 2004:

  1. Florida: 76,200
  2. New York: 44,400
  3. California: 42,300

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in October, 2004:

  1. Alaska: -16,100
  2. Michigan: -13,200
  3. New Jersey: -9,700
