According to data from the US BLS, the following US states added the highest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2013:

  1. New York: 45,900
  2. District of Columbia: 7,000
  3. Mississippi: 3,200

On the other hand, the following states added the lowest number of jobs to the Total Private industry (not seasonally adjusted) in September, 2013:

  1. Massachusetts: -28,300
  2. Ohio: -27,100
  3. Colorado: -22,800
