According to data from the US BLS, the unemployment rate of Washington was 8.7% (sa) in August, 2009. Among all Washington counties, these 3 were among those with high unemployment rates (nsa): Clark (12.4%), Pend Oreille (12.2%), and Cowlitz (12.1%).

On the hand, the following three counties were among those with low unemployment rates (nsa): San Juan (4.5%), Whitman (5.6%), and Walla Walla (5.7%).
