According to data from the US BLS, the unemployment rate of the US was 5.6% (sa) in May, 2004. Among all US states and DC, these 3 were among those with high unemployment rates: Alaska (7.5%), Oregon (7.5%), and District of Columbia (7.5%).

On the hand, the following three states were among those with low unemployment rates: North Dakota (3.3%), Hawaii (3.3%), and South Dakota (3.5%).
