Malaria Cases in Africa, 2017

In 2017, the World Health Organization estimated, 219 million cases of malaria globally. The majority of the malaria cases, that is 200.5 million (92%) occurred in Africa.

The map above highlights the severity of the malaria cases for the individual African countries. Interestingly, Rwanda which had a population of 12.2 million cases in 2017, also had 6.2 million malaria cases, which is approximately half the the size of its population.
