Based on the US Census Bureau's special tabulation from the ACS 5-year estimates, in 2011, the citizen population for North Carolina was 8,928,530 and represented 94.80% of the total North Carolina population.
Among all North Carolina counties, Mecklenburg had the highest citizen population (820.26K), followed by Wake (806.24K), and Guilford (453.91K).
In terms of percentages, Gates had the highest percentage of its population being citizens (99.88%), followed by Perquimans (99.77%), and Bertie (99.50%).
