Based on the US Census ACS-5Yrs estimates, in 2021, the percentage of the Illinois population without a health insurance coverage was 7.00% (i.e. 885,820 people). Percentagewise, among all Illinois counties, Douglas County had the highest percentage of its population with no health insurance coverage (16.49%), followed by Moultrie County (13.96%), and Wayne County (11.39%).
In numerical terms, Cook County had the highest number of people without a health insurance coverage (468,085), followed by DuPage County (48,915), and Lake County (46,089).
