The US Census Bureau estimated that the Black or African American Alone population in South Carolina was 1,305,355 in 2010, and represented 28.16% of South Carolina's 4,635,846 population in 2010. Richland County had the highest number of the Black or African American Alone population (179,048 residents), followed by Charleston County with 105,205 residents, and Greenville County with 83,079 residents. McCormick County had the smallest number of the Black or African American Alone population (5,068 residents) in 2010.
