The US Census Bureau estimated that the Black or African American Alone population in South Carolina was 1,363,711 in 2016, and represented 27.48% of South Carolina's 4,963,031 population in 2016. Richland County had the highest number of the Black or African American Alone population (195,394 residents), followed by Charleston County with 110,008 residents, and Greenville County with 92,335 residents. McCormick County had the smallest number of the Black or African American Alone population (4,532 residents) in 2016.
