Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2015, the Black or African American Alone population in Tennessee was 1,127,200 and represented 17.09% of the total Tennessee population (6,595,354).

Among Tennessee counties, Shelby County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (504,973), followed by Davidson County (191,014), and Hamilton County (69,898). Pickett County had the lowest (8).
