Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2011, the American Indian and Alaska Native Alone population in the United States was 3,806,563 and represented 1.22% of the total US population (311,583,481).

Among all US states, California had the highest number of people who identified as American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (627,535), followed by Oklahoma (343,614), and Arizona (341,660). Vermont had the lowest (2,347).
