According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 2,237,044 people in California who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 5.66% of the total population of California. Los Angeles County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (794,364), followed by San Bernardino County (184,558), and Alameda County (164,879). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Sierra County (7), Alpine County (10), and Modoc County (67).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Solano County had the highest percentage, with 13.71% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Alameda County (9.80%), and Sacramento County (9.64%).
