According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 494,029 people in Massachusetts who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 7.03% of the total population of Massachusetts. Suffolk County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (145,566), followed by Middlesex County (84,670), and Norfolk County (51,371). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Dukes County (813), Nantucket County (1,027), and Franklin County (1,075).
In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Suffolk County had the highest percentage, with 18.24% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Hampden County (8.92%), and Plymouth County (8.50%).
