New Jersey Black or African American Alone Population By County in Census 2020

According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 1,219,770 people in New Jersey who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 13.13% of the total population of New Jersey. Essex County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (335,047), followed by Union County (117,306), and Camden County (101,109). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Sussex County (3,088), Hunterdon County (3,174), and Cape May County (3,567).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Essex County had the highest percentage, with 38.79% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Union County (20.39%), and Mercer County (19.36%).
