North Carolina Black or African American Alone Population By County in Census 2020

According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, in April 2020, there were 2,140,217 people in North Carolina who identified their race as Black or African American Alone, which is 20.50% of the total population of North Carolina. Mecklenburg County had the highest number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone (330,458), followed by Wake County (208,493), and Guilford County (181,848). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identify as Black or African American Alone were: Graham County (50), Mitchell County (53), and Clay County (65).

In terms of the percentage of each county's total population, Bertie County had the highest percentage, with 59.78% of its population identifying their race as Black or African American Alone, followed by Hertford County (57.50%), and Edgecombe County (56.09%).
