Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2015, there were 1,328,731 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in South Carolina and they represented 27.14% of the total population of South Carolina in 2015. Richland County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (188,629), followed by Charleston County (107,971), and Greenville County (88,337). On the other hand, McCormick County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (4,636), followed by Saluda County (5,047), and Oconee County (5,718).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Allendale County had the highest percentage (73.39%), followed by Williamsburg County (64.88%), and Lee County (63.5%).
