Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2020, there were 1,338,919 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in South Carolina and they represented 26.09% of the total population of South Carolina in 2020. Richland County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (198,390), followed by Charleston County (101,653), and Greenville County (92,433). On the other hand, McCormick County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (4,134), followed by Saluda County (4,404), and Calhoun County (5,608).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Allendale County had the highest percentage (73.28%), followed by Williamsburg County (64.16%), and Lee County (63.26%).
