Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2010, there were 1,054,331 people that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone in Tennessee and they represented 16.59% of the total population of Tennessee in 2010. Shelby County had the highest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone population (483,423), followed by Davidson County (173,354), and Hamilton County (67,693). On the other hand, Pickett County had the lowest number of Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone (5), followed by Sequatchie County (20), and Scott County (20).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identified as Non-Hispanic Black or African American alone, Shelby County had the highest percentage (52.07%), followed by Haywood County (50.21%), and Hardeman County (41.27%).
