According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2011, the net international migration rate for North Carolina was 1.13. Durham County had the highest net international migration rate (3.66) followed by Orange County (3.46), and Mecklenburg County (3.04). On the other hand, Greene County had the lowest net international migration rate (-0.75), followed by Montgomery County (-0.54), and Yadkin County (-0.39).

Net International migration rate for a given county refers to the difference between number of people moving to the county from other parts of the world outside the borders of the United States (50 states and District of Columbia) and the number of people moving out of the county to other parts of the world outside the borders of the United States per 1,000 of the mid-year population of the county.
