According to the US Census Bureau estimates, 663,974 (9.91%) of the 6,698,481 Indiana population in 2018 identified as Black or African American alone.

Marion County had the highest number of African Americans (279,385), and African Americans constituted 29.12% of the county's population. Other counties with high number of African Americans include: Lake County (119,575) - 24.66% of the county's population, and Allen County (45,219) - 12.06% of the county's population.
