According to the US Census Bureau estimates, 1,872,070 (30.98%) of the 6,042,153 Maryland population in 2018 identified as Black or African American alone.

Prince George's County had the highest number of African Americans (589,449), and African Americans constituted 64.68% of the county's population. Other counties with high number of African Americans include: Baltimore city (379,915) - 62.98% of the county's population, and Baltimore County (247,097) - 29.82% of the county's population.
