CPSC Recall in 2000: CPSC, Liebert Corp. Announce Recall of Cooling System

PRODUCT: Mini-Mate2 Environmental Control Units - Liebert Corp., of Columbus, Ohio, is recalling about 1,500 Mini-Mate2 environmental control units, which are used as a cooling system in computer rooms. The recalled units are 277-volts and 1.5, 2 and 3 tons with electric reheat. The units are mounted in the ceiling and use ducts or special distribution grills to distribute the air. Liebert Corp. sold these units nationwide from January 1998 through August 2000 for between $3,000 and $8,000. PROBLEM: An electric heating element inside the system that is used primarily in the dehumidification process, can short circuit and produce sparks, posing a smoke and fire risk. INCIDENTS/INJURIES: No injuries have been reported. WHAT TO DO: For more information about the recall, contact Liebert Corp. at (800) 543-2778 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for instructions on disconnecting the reheat assembly. Liebert Corp. will install and replace the heating element. Liebert Corp. sent recall notices to known purchasers.
