The Gender Gap Between US Prisoners (2006 - 2016)

As at December 2016, the United States had an estimated 1,506,800 prisoners who were under the jurisdiction of state and federal jurisdiction.

The gender gap between US prisoners is very wide. As can be shown by the charts below, between 2006 and 2016, approximately 93% of the prisoners were male and approximately 7% were female. This data was collected from the US Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).
