Based on data from the US Department of Education, for the 2021-2022 school year, the following US states were among the top 5 who had the highest percentage of their Grade 4 students being proficient in Reading or Language Arts: Maine (84.4%), Iowa (72.7%), Ohio (62.5%), Florida (57.3%), and Texas (53.1%).

It was 30.2% for District of Columbia, and 9% for the Bureau of Indian Education.
