The Household energy item had the highest 12-month percent change or inflation rate (6.2%), followed by Professional services (4.2%), and Food away from home (4.0%).

The CPI-U is based on the expenditures of almost all residents of urban or metropolitan areas, including professionals, the self-employed, the poor, the unemployed, and retired people, as well as urban wage earners and clerical workers.
