Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2016, the Black or African American Alone population in Maine was 20,511 and represented 1.54% of the total Maine population (1,332,348).

Among Maine counties, Cumberland County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (8,892), followed by Androscoggin County (4,442), and York County (1,812). Piscataquis County had the lowest (80).
