Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2011, the Black or African American Alone population in New Jersey was 1,292,112 and represented 14.64% of the total New Jersey population (8,828,552).

Among New Jersey counties, Essex County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (333,859), followed by Union County (125,695), and Camden County (107,741). Sussex County had the lowest (2,845).
