Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2011, the Black or African American Alone population in North Carolina was 2,121,809 and represented 21.97% of the total North Carolina population (9,658,913).

Among North Carolina counties, Mecklenburg County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (300,081), followed by Wake County (197,754), and Guilford County (165,033). Graham County had the lowest (17).
